The Birth of John the Baptist: Luke 1:5-25

V. 5-7

Notice that Zacharias and Elizabeth had no children, even though they were righteous. Sometimes there are reasons other than sin for the lack we have in our lives. If you are missing something in your life, ask God if the reason is sin or something else.

V. 11

We see in this verse that angels are real and can be visible.

V. 13

Here we see that God responds to prayer, let that be an encouraging thought for you when you pray.

V. 15

Note here that John the Baptist was filled with the Holy Spirit, while in his mother’s womb. Think about what this means in regard to how and if God can work in the lives of children.

V. 16-17

John the Baptist was to plow the hearts of the people in preparation of the teaching ministry of Christ.

V. 18

Zacharias should have understood that God is capable of causing the elderly to have children. How quickly we forget Abraham and Sarah.

V. 19

It is pointed out here that the angel Gabriel stands in the presence of God.

V. 20

We see in this verse that sometimes there are earthly consequences to a lack of faith. In response to this principle we should always ask God to strengthen our faith.
